Roman Route XIX

T here were more than 80,000 km of roads in the Roman Empire. Initially, they were built to make the advance and displacement of Roman legions easy but it didn't take long before they were used for administration and trade operations. They became very useful for the postal service, government decrees and ordinary trade in the expanding Rome. One of the most important documents in the Roman Empire is the Antonine Itinerary. The 372 most important Roman routes are recorded in this document, including the Via XIX which goes through the municipality of O Pino, between the towns of Boqueixón and Arzúa. About 22 km of this road are within O Pino territory. The road linked the towns of Braga – in Portugal – and the Galician town of Lugo, going across the parishes of San Miguel de Pereira, Castrofeito and Gonzar.
