Pazo de Picón

Pazo de Picón

B aroque style building that has a very open U-shaped plant. It was built in ashlar masonry using slate granite and plastering it. Granite ashlar masonry is also used for margins and details. The façade has short doors and square windows with stonework frames. In the north wing, there is a staircase and a balcony with King's shield very similar to that which can be found in the pazo of Porto de Outeiro. Its garden is formed by old box bushes ("buxo" in Galician language). A newly-built battlemented tower stands out from its roof. This tower was enlarged in 1958. The lintel over the front door has a date inscription reading 1699.

One of the most appealing features of this pazo is the way it is presented as an agricultural whole, especially because of its location in the middle of a cedar and eucalyptus forrest. The vast land surrounding the pazo still preserves the big native trees and other native and foreign species. Walking along the path that goes through the estate one can admire an amazing natural landscape.
